A few things you might be wondering

The essentials before your first entry, plus where to find help.

About the app

What is HookBook?

HookBook is a sex journal and sexual activity tracker for iPhone and iPad. It brings together personal notes, partner information, activity history, medication and screening reminders, and insights.

Is HookBook a dating app?

No. HookBook is for keeping your own record. It does not provide a dating network or matchmaking service.

Can I use HookBook to take notes about my sex life?

Yes. Use Notes in an activity entry to record a reflection, something you want to remember, or a question for next time. Entries can also include dates, saved or anonymous partners, protection categories, locations, and ratings. Activity tags require PLUS.

Can I record an encounter without a partner’s name?

Yes. Record an anonymous-partner count without creating a partner profile. An activity can include saved partners, anonymous partners, or both. You choose which optional details to keep.

Is HookBook useful for gay and bisexual men?

Yes. Gay and bisexual men can use HookBook to organize encounters, partner history, personal notes, and medication or screening reminders. It is also for other sexually active adults, including LGBTQ+ people and people in different relationship structures.

Which devices can I use?

HookBook is available for iPhone and iPad. See the App Store listing for current operating-system requirements and compatibility.

Is it free?

The app is free to download and offers optional HookBook Plus in-app purchases. Check the app or App Store for the current features, plans, and prices available in your region.

Your routine and your information

Can I use it for medication and screening reminders?

HookBook supports screening reminders and medication tracking, including PrEP, ART, and DoxyPEP-related records. Use these tools according to the plan you discuss with your clinician; the app does not prescribe a regimen.

Can HookBook tell me whether I have an STI?

No. Entries, charts, and reminders cannot diagnose an infection or replace appropriate testing. For questions about testing, see the appointment-preparation guide and speak with a healthcare professional.

Can I lock the app?

HookBook supports Face ID and Touch ID protection on compatible devices.

Does HookBook collect my journal data?

The developer does not host a copy of your app database. Records are saved on your devices and, when database sync is enabled, in your private iCloud account. Separately, Firebase Analytics receives usage information and selected activity statistics, medication settings, and tag names. AppsFlyer handles attribution, and RevenueCat processes purchases and receives the AppsFlyer identifier. Photos and backups can use iCloud independently of database sync. See the policy for details.
